My injuries resulted from a serious auto accident where the other driver was completely at fault.
I was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and was lucky that Dr. Haim D. Blecher was at the hospital.
He performed a procedure known as a "halo" to straighten a dislocated and unstable cervical spine which had caused me to be paralyzed. It sounds simple enough, however, this procedure is critical to relieve the pressure on the spinal cord from such a constricted situation.
The following day Dr. Blecher operated on my cervical spine to repair multiple fractures. This operation involved access to my cervical spine both from the front and the rear. At one area the vertebrae was reconstructed using my bone marrow. The balance of the fractures were secured using multiple titanium straps.
The following morning, perhaps 6:00 am, Dr. Blecher came to visit with me. I could tell from his eyes at that moment that I was in the right hands for my situation and extremely fortunate to have had him operate on me.
There are some lingering minor complications associated with such injuries and the major operations to repair such conditions. However, I was in excellent medical care so I decided to be positive and stoic about my situation.
My accident happened April 27, 2005. My follow-up visits with Dr. Blecher have always been positive and re-assuring. I am now 74, in good health and physical condition, recently married (very happily), working each day and looking forward to retiring in 16 years and doing as much good as possible.
Anyone facing spinal problems today would be well served by seeing Dr. Blecher first. (I could not have received better care anywhere). |
