When I first went to see Dr. Blecher I had been in severe pain for over 2 years. I was suffering from lower back pain – and it went down through my hip and shin. I suffered from both foot pain and numb feet.
I had been seeing a doctor and had 2 MRIs during these 2 years. I was told I had 2 slipped discs and there was nothing that could be done so I was given 6 epidural injections – they did little to alleviate my pain.
I tried strengthening my core with pilates, going to a chiropractor, physical therapy, Advil, etc and was getting very frustrated – nothing seemed to be working. And other people kept asking me, “Why aren’t you better yet? You only have slipped discs? You are athletic, get over it, quit the pity party, etc.”
I began to research spinal orthopedic surgeons online and Dr. Blecher’s name kept coming up with glowing reviews so I decided to go and see him.
It was an amazing first visit – using my EXISTING DR’S MRI, Dr. Blecher gave me a completely different diagnosis. Dr. Blecher spent quite a bit of time explaining why I was in pain and that my situation was a bit more complicated than I had been led to believe.
Dr. Blecher performed a spinal fusion on my L3-L4, L4-5 on February 2, 2010 to correct stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and retrolisthesis.
After 4 months the changes in my life are dramatic. I am able to walk 3 miles, garden, have a full day of running errands – all things I couldn’t do for 2 years.
The immediate recovery from surgery was only difficult for about 10 days –
after that I was drug free – and healing rapidly. The rate of recovery went smoothly and I followed the Dr.’s orders – walking everyday.
I cannot thank Dr. Blecher and the University Spine Associates team enough – I have my life back!
