Changes in the lumbar spine, whether from aging or disease, can cause a disc to bulge or rupture and irritate the surrounding delicate spinal nerves. This can lead to pain in the neck, lower back, arms, and legs. Many patients find relief in non-surgical methods, but those who experience recurring pain in these areas are usually referred to a spinal surgeon.
Some laser disc and spine surgeries are minimally invasive, allowing the patient to leave the hospital sooner and recover faster. Patients with conditions such as lumbar stenosis, degenerative disc disease and lumbar disc herniation who choose to have laser lumbar spine surgery are welcome to come to Univeristy Spine Associates to talk to a doctor about treatment. Dr. Blecher, having performed laser spine surgeries during his training, will only educate patients about the procedure since there’s not enough evidence on the effectiveness of this type of surgery. At this point, Dr. Blecher does not perform or recommend the use of laser spinal surgeries for any spinal conditions that we see.
As with all surgical procedures, talk with your doctor about which option is right for you, or contact University Spine Associates for more information about what they offer. |
